Initial Post

Carnival in Bahia, are special days and have become the greatest popular cultural manifestation of the natives interacting with the millions of gathered visitors. It is a mixture of fun, party and theater, which involves music and folklore. It basically a street party but is also celebrated in closed spaces such as barracas, clubs, bars and camarotes (kind of like boxes along the parade route)
Carnaval (as it's spelled in Portuguese) 2008 starts Thursday, January 31st, and it runs through Tuesday, February 5th -- officially. Unofficially (and actually) it runs to the morning of Ash Wednesday, February 6th, at the Farol da Barra and winds its way along Avenida Oceanica to Ondina. You have to be there to really experience the sound and sights of this unique annual event, since you won’t be there, you can vicariously partake of the forbidden pleasures through this blog.

I’ll keep you posted on all our activities before and during this fabulous 2 weeks excursion.
